Software I use, and other things I recommend.
I get asked a lot about the things I use to build software, stay productive. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.
Workstation
16” MacBook Pro, Intel i7, 16GB RAM (2019)
I am currently using a 16” MacBook Pro with an Intel i7 processor from 2019 and I couldn`'`t be happier with it. Despite being a couple of years old, it still performs exceptionally well and handles all of my tasks with ease. The screen is large and vibrant, making it perfect for video editing and graphic design work. I also appreciate the comfortable keyboard and touchpad, which make typing and navigating the system a breeze. Plus, the build quality is top-notch and the laptop looks sleek and professional. Overall, I have had a great experience with my 16” MacBook Pro and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful and reliable laptop.
Dell 27” Ultra Sharp
The Dell 27" UltraSharp is an excellent display for those who need both size and HiDPI resolution. It`'`s the perfect choice for users who require a larger screen than the standard 27-inch size. When you`'`re working with high-resolution images or complex data sets, every pixel counts, and this display delivers the clarity and detail you need to work effectively. Whether you`'`re working on a project that requires fine details or just need the extra screen space, the Dell 27" UltraSharp is an excellent choice.
Development tools
Visual Studio Code
When it comes to working with TypeScript, Visual Studio Code is hands-down the best editor available. Its robust language support and intelligent code completion make it a breeze to work with even the most complex codebases. Whether you're building a simple web application or a large-scale enterprise system, Visual Studio Code has everything you need to write clean, maintainable code that performs well and scales easily.
iTerm2
I'm honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren't just part of the macOS Terminal but it's what I use.
Design
Figma
We started using Figma as just a design tool but now it's become our virtual whiteboard for the entire company. Never would have expected the collaboration features to be the real hook.
Productivity
Notion
Notion is a powerful all-in-one workspace that allows you to organize and manage your notes, tasks, projects, and more. One of the most useful features of Notion is its flexibility in organizing information. Notion enables you to create databases, tables, lists, and more, making it easy to structure your notes in a way that makes sense to you. Additionally, Notion has a robust set of formatting tools that allow you to add images, videos, and other media to your notes, as well as customize the layout to suit your needs. With Notion, you can easily tag and categorize your notes, which makes searching and filtering through your notes a breeze.
Linear
Linear is a task management tool that is extremely useful for splitting tasks and organizing different projects. It provides a simple and intuitive interface that allows you to create and assign tasks, set deadlines, and track progress. One of the most useful features of Linear is its ability to break down complex tasks into smaller, more manageable subtasks. This makes it easy to see what needs to be done and how progress is being made towards the overall goal. Additionally, Linear allows you to easily organize tasks into different projects and view them in different contexts, so you can keep track of everything without getting overwhelmed.
